Financial Controller

The Financial Controller provides strategic leadership to the Institute’s financial strategy, overseeing management of revenue, expenditures, position control, payroll and the maintenance of accounts and ledgers. The Financial Controller is a strategic advisor to the CFO and Senior Team on the Institute’s most critical financial matters, with emphasis on financial operations. The Financial Controller has oversight of the treasury function in consultation with the CFO & VP and provides strategic direction to the Institute’s internal and external financial reporting, ensuring all requirements are met. This role oversees external auditors and ensures the Institute meets its statutory and regulatory requirements.

 

The Financial Controller ensures financial health and sustainability of the operating and capital resources of the Institute. The role collaborates with senior leaders, Schools and departments to establish effective financial processes, policies and controls across the Institute; provides strategic oversight of financial operations, compliance and related reporting within the schools and departments. In addition, they will be responsible for creating a culture of continuous improvement, with a focus on streamlining and optimizing financial processes and systems.

 

The ideal candidate is a senior finance/accounting professional with many years of senior financial management experience within a large, complex, multi-fund environment. An ability to ensure the highest reporting standards and effective finance and accounting systems are in place will be key. Experience in preparing and presenting information to the Executive level to assist in decision-making will be critical to success. The ideal candidate will need to bring strong energy, a strategic perspective and solid change management leadership abilities to the role.  The individual will be known for their unwavering integrity and will possess outstanding leadership, team building and communication skills. Experience working closely with all functional areas of an organization and a successful track record within a publicly accountable, unionized and multi-site setting would be ideal.
