The University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) seeks a highly-effective leader for the position of Director, HR Services. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and with an indirect reporting relationship to the University of Toronto’s Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director leads the full range of non-academic HR services for UTM.

The Director, HR Services will join UTM at a propitious time. They will provide leadership to non-academic staff and their managers, across a range of functional areas including, but not limited to: recruitment and retention, job evaluation, on-boarding and orientation, performance management, organizational design, succession planning, training and development, health and safety, workplace accommodation, workplace investigations, labour and employee relations, payroll, benefits, and employee engagement and rewards. Working in collaboration with the UTM management team and with central HR staff, the Director ensures that all human resource policies, strategies and programs are aligned with the strategic goals of the campus, and that the goals and objectives of individual business units are implemented within that context.
For the role of Director, HR Services a University degree together with completion of a Certified HR professional designation (CHRP) and/or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of human resources best practices, labour relations, collective agreements, and related employment legislation; demonstrated managerial, coaching, consulting, mentoring and team-building skills; strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills; strong research and analytical skills; demonstrated skill working effectively with a diverse group of clients and experience fostering an inclusive environment; demonstrated commitment to the promotion of equity in the workplace and an ability to work effectively with all constituents in a highly diverse, unionized environment; proven ability to exercise sound judgment, tact, diplomacy and persuasion; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to make independent decisions and direct others in critical situations; ability to effectively manage complex or sensitive situations; skill in managing conflict; good mediation skills; and, an ability to manage multiple, competing and frequently changing priorities.
