Director, Operations & Organizational Effectiveness

York University is known for championing new ways of thinking that drive teaching and research excellence. Our 53,000 students receive the education they need to create big ideas that make an impact on the world.

Launched in early 2015, and already one of the largest Schools in Canada, the new School of Continuing Studies has fast become a leader in innovation and design in higher education.

The launch of the School represents the largest investment made in continuing professional education at any post-secondary institution in over two decades. With pioneering modern program designs, engagement of industry thought-leaders, and cutting-edge programs that meet our economy’s largest skill gaps, the School has stepped up to meet the needs of international and adult students as well as employers. Exponential growth in the last three years has led to new investment in our operations, people and processes.

The School is seeking a dynamic individual to lead the School to next-level professional services and effectiveness. Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President (AVP), the Director, Operations & Organizational Effectiveness supports strategic communications, organizational effectiveness activities, analytics and reporting, as well as the provision of registration and learning support activities to both the York University English Language Institute and the Continuing Professional Education department.

As Director, you manage the development of the School’s strategic and operational plans, lead regular check-point meetings with the senior team, and ensure key projects stay on track. You lead significant strategic and transformational activities, including culture and employee engagement, learning and development, onboarding, as well as consulting with senior managers regarding organizational performance, measurement, organizational structure, job design, performance metrics and measurement. You assess the data/metrics/reporting needs of the School and drive evidence-based decisions and business growth through managing the data analytics function. You lead operational effectiveness initiatives such as business process improvement and reviews of operating policies and procedures.

You manage some of the School’s central support services including learning support services and registration services.  You will regularly act in place of the AVP, lead strategic communications on behalf of the AVP’s office, and back up other members of the senior team as needed.

As the ideal candidate, you bring a minimum of a graduate degree in a related field such as business, management, or organizational psychology, or human resources.

You bring a decade of relevant experience in operational management, strategic planning, process improvement, organizational effectiveness, management consulting, benchmarking, process improvement methods, and data analytics. Your experience includes a minimum of two years managing staff (ideally in a unionized environment) and vendors to achieve significant growth targets.

Your flexibility, adaptability, and deep entrepreneurial drive allow you to excel in a “start-up” environment.  You are collaborative, have superior planning and project management skills, are a precise and compelling communicator, and bring a keen sense of humour to all relationships.
