Director, Program Standards & Assessments

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) leads and coordinates British Columbia’s skilled trades system. ITA works with employers, employees, industry, labour, training providers and government to issue credentials, support apprenticeships, fund programs, set program standards, and increase opportunities in the trades. The vision is to create a world class training and apprenticeship system for British Columbians. The mission for ITA is to build the trades that build British Columbia. ITA has been recognized as one of BC’s Top 100 Employers for 2017.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director, Program Standards and Assessments will work closely with government, industry bodies, unions, training institutions, instructors, employers, trainees, other ITA departments, and Canadian jurisdictions to ensure that ITA fulfills its program standards mandate.  Acting in an advisory capacity to other ITA staff, the COO and at times the CEO and the Board of Directors on policy matters and issues related to ITA program standards, the Director will ensure and promote the integrity of systems and processes.   Additionally, the Director will be responsible for ITA’s assessment and certification mandate by ensuring the fairness, validity, accessibility, and security of tools, as well as managing the processes and protocols required to administer exams and other assessments.

With a positive, enthusiastic and collaborative leadership style, the Director will work cross-functionally to achieve the clear goals of ITA and provide sound mentorship to their direct reports and entire team.  The preferred candidate will bring strong business acumen and understanding of budget management.  Possessing superior organizational skills, the Director will ideally have sound knowledge of BC’s trades training and apprenticeship systems and an appreciation for the nuances of the post-secondary sector.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding relationship skills and an ability to achieve results in a highly complex, multi-stakeholder environment. The Director will have a reputation for being fair, objective, and focused on outcomes that serve a broad mandate.  A strong level of collaboration with industry, government, post-secondary institutions and other provincial and community partners will be imperative to the candidate’s success in this critical role.
