The next Executive Director, Facilities Management and Planning joins UTM at an auspicious time. Massive building projects are underway—with designs that are truly iconic, sustainable, and world-class—marking an important moment in UTM’s evolution, and buildings across campus are undergoing renovations to improve the aesthetic and function of the overall institution. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and in partnership with a large team, the Executive Director provides leadership to the following units: grounds, caretaking, property management, utilities infrastructure, sustainability, stores, space planning, and planning, design, and construction. With 165 reports (5 direct and 160 indirect), the Executive Director oversees a large and diverse team comprised of union and non-union employees.
For this critically-important role, the Executive Director models collegiality and is held in high regard for their capacity as a leader. They inspire a culture of customer service, possess an abiding commitment to fostering strong and mutually-beneficial relationships, and are a person of unassailable integrity and character. Candidates should possess a university degree in Engineering and/or Architecture, with a P.Eng designation or certification considered an asset, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate has experience in a related senior management role, preferably gained in a large and complex environment; strong project management and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities; financial acumen and solid presentation skills; and, excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, negotiation and people management skills.
