Director, Women in Trades

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) leads and coordinates British Columbia’s skilled trades system, working with employers, apprentices, industry, labour, training providers, and government to issue credentials, support apprenticeships, fund programs, set program standards and increase opportunities in the trades. Taking a progressive stance on a systemic issue, the Industry Training Authority (ITA) has created a critical role to engage and create innovation for the increased status of women in skilled trades.  The Director, Women in Trades will support ITA in advocating for and promoting strong representation of women in industry.  Reporting to the CEO, the Director, Women in Trades will utilize relevant data as well as a consultative approach to understand barriers and lead a cultural change for women in skilled trades. This individual works with training providers, industry, organizations supporting women and other equity seeking groups and governments to seek and share expertise, guidance and leadership, ensuring the BC trades training system is diverse and inclusive.

The ideal candidate brings a depth of experience working within a multi-stakeholder environment to enhance and advance the participation of women in under-represented sectors. This experience includes taking a learner-centric and data-driven approach and a demonstrated ability to create innovative pathways for equity seeking groups.  The incumbent is familiar with and has implemented effective partnership and stakeholder initiatives and has seen demonstrated success from those endeavors.  The Director has a reputation for being able to work with a diverse constituent groups to gain trust, respect and credibility for those seeking greater participation and visibility.  With a collaborative, nuanced and nimble approach, the Director, Women in Trades will take this critical platform and work cross-functionally both internally and externally to raise awareness, interest and the viability of gender inclusion within the skilled trades sector.
