The Division of Human Resources & Equity (HR & Equity) in the University of Toronto (UofT) seeks a deeply analytical and highly effective administrator for the position of Director, Finance & Operations.
Reporting to the Vice-President, HR & Equity and indirectly reporting to UofT’s Chief Human Resources Officer, the Director provides leadership, strategic advice, and sound management to operations and business administration within the HR & Equity portfolio. The Director ensures that plans, policies, and benchmarks are in place to support the mission of the Division, and develops short and long-term strategic plans in partnership with colleagues to support the priorities of the unit. The Director leads the annual budget process for the Division and optimizes the unit’s capacity to effectively perform its service mandate to the University.
The ideal candidate comes to the role with deep financial experience, preferably gained in a portfolio that is home to a range of operational units (e.g. human resources, facility operations and planning, information technology, etc.), and has the ability to develop a thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the University, the priorities of academic units and other service divisions across campus, and the University’s financial and human resources systems. The Director possesses strong communication skills—both spoken and in written form—and has been recognized as a trusted business partner. The person who will realize success in the role is detail-oriented and data-driven; is recognized for their technological expertise and for improving efficiencies through the use of technology and systems; presents financial information in a manner that’s compelling yet comprehendible; and, has an abiding commitment to excellence in service delivery. A Business or Commerce degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience is sought, and a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA) is required.
