University of Northern British Columbia
Located in the spectacular landscape of northern British Columbia, UNBC is one of Canada’s top small research universities, with a passion for teaching, discovery, people, the environment, and the North.
UNBC is a University both in and for the north, and this mission has instilled a strong sense of ownership, purpose, and adventure among their students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the communities they serve. UNBC is also Canada’s Green University™, leading the way to a more sustainable future for all. UNBC is honored to serve diverse traditional territories that are home to numerous First Nations and other Aboriginal groups.
UNBC is seeking a candidate for the position of Vice-Provost who demonstrates academic leadership, mentorship and community-building experience along with a commitment to the University and the communities it serves. The Vice-Provost will be an accomplished scholar with administrative leadership experience in program development at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will be tasked with quality assurance, community building, promoting and supporting research, fostering academic innovation, managing resources, and advancing multi-disciplinary initiatives. This individual will demonstrate the ability to motivate and inspire others in a way that is consistent with UNBC’s motto ‘En Cha Huná’, a Dakelh (Carrier) phrase which means “that person also lives”. This position offers an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role in UNBC’s Academic Restructuring project that is reorganizing the institution from a Two-College system to a Five-Faculty model. These strategic changes positions UNBC for the further growth and success of our exceptional faculty, staff, and students as well as the wider community.
Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Vice-Provost works in partnership with the Provost and other members of the University’s leadership team to support the strategic direction of the University and ensure successful implementation and accountability of the University’s Strategic Roadmap in relation to academic deliverables. The position provides leadership in the areas of recruitment, retention and development of faculty; and academic programming quality assurance and reviews.
An executive search is being undertaken by UNBC’s search partner Perrett Laver. Applications should consist of a full CV detailing academic and professional qualifications and relevant achievements, and should be accompanied by a cover letter briefly describing how candidates meet the criteria, why the appointment is of interest and what they believe they can bring to the role. Further information, including details on how to apply can be found at www.perrettlaver.com/candidates quoting the reference number 4244. The closing date for applications is 12 noon (Pacific Time) on Friday October 11.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. The University of Northern British Columbia is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from women, aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities and members of visible minorities.
