York University is seeking a dynamic, community engaged academic leader for the position of Deputy Provost of our new Markham Centre Campus. Construction is underway for York University’s long-awaited Markham Centre Campus (MCC) which will welcome its first students in the Fall of 2023. Once open, this distinctive and exciting new Campus will build opportunity and drive positive change in the City of Markham and York Region, accommodating up to 4,200 students in Phase 1, with the flexibility to respond to future growth demands. Aligning with the University’s Academic Plan it will contribute significantly to York’s teaching and research mission and build on the already strong relationships that we have in the Region. In addition to innovative academic programs, the MCC will develop inter-disciplinary research clusters, promote experiential and work integrated learning, and expand our support for the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem, already established through our YSpace incubator/accelerator and our presence in the IBM Innovation Space.
The Deputy Provost will be an entrepreneurial academic leader who brings experience engaging with other sectors, including industry, community agencies and government. The University requires a student-centred academic and administrative leader who can plan and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners who will be core to York’s success in Markham. Excellent at strategic planning, the Deputy Provost must be a leader who can translate academic vision into campus decisions, including those related to academic programming, research and innovation, success of domestic and international students, administration and operations, and capital development and management.
The Deputy Provost will provide collaborative academic leadership with respect to all aspects of design, development, launch, and ongoing success of the new campus. Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President Academic the Deputy Provost will be the chief academic officer at the MCC and a key member of the University’s executive team. The Deputy Provost will work in close collaboration with the President, the Vice-President Research & Innovation, Faculty Deans, and the School of Continuing Studies, to prepare for a successful opening in fall 2023 and ongoing success thereafter.
