Director of Finance - Controller

Now, Mount Allison is seeking a strategic and energetic leader to oversee the University’s financial management, internal controls and financial reporting as the next Director of Finance - Controller. This leader will join a strong team at a financially sound institution and, through effective financial stewardship, will play a key role in contributing to the University’s strategic plan and advancing its long-term goal of being one of the best undergraduate universities in the world. This role has oversight of a $275 million investment portfolio and $70 million in annual revenue within a dynamic organization of 450 employees.

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Administration, the Director of Finance - Controller provides leadership and direction for the management of all of the University’s financial assets and financial reporting. The Director of Finance - Controller advises and supports the University’s Senior Administration in financial matters and their team advises and supports the University community on financial, risk, and procurement issues. The Director of Finance - Controller ensures that the University community is provided with the necessary support through financial systems and policies to ensure effective, efficient, economical and sustainable use of resources, and effectively leads the Financial Services team. The Director of Finance - Controller is relied upon to ensure internal controls are strong, processes are efficient, effective and innovative, and is a trusted business advisor to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration. A mentor and coach to employees in the department, the Director of Finance - Controller will build a strong and effective team. 

As the ideal candidate, you possess a CPA designation, seven to ten-years of senior level experience in financial management, and experience working in financial leadership for a large, dynamic organization. You have demonstrated knowledge of financial, accounting, purchasing and investment functions, as well as expert knowledge of GAAP, accounting theory and practice. A highly collaborative and engaging leader, you have a proven track record of effectively mentoring and supporting a highly skilled and service-oriented team. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to maintain highly positive and effective working relationships with stakeholders across your organization. High integrity, creative problem-solving and accountability are hallmarks of your leadership. You bring strong strategic planning skills as well as experience in process improvement and change management. Most importantly, you believe in the importance of having fun as a team while working hard to advance the goals of your organization.
