Founded in 1959 on the Traditional Territory of the Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat, York University is Canada's third-largest university, and is a leading interdisciplinary research and teaching institution. York is a community of change-makers passionate about advancing social justice and equity and championing diversity and inclusivity by embracing differing perspectives, peoples, and ways of knowing, and fostering global fluencies and cross-cultural knowledges. Located in Toronto and adjacent to one of North America's fastest-growing regions, York reflects the multicultural diversity of its wider community on its Keele, Glendon, and Markham campuses, facilities in downtown Toronto, and in two international campuses in India and Costa Rica. York is a vibrant community of over 60,000 faculty, staff and students building their own unique paths to success in their chosen fields. York's community also includes over 325,000 alumni worldwide.

The School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) is one of North America's premier educational and research institutions for the visual, performing and digital arts and design. The largest, most comprehensive program of its kind in Canada, we unite more than 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students and 300 full-time and part-time faculty working at the leading edge of creative practice and scholarship.

AMPD offers in-depth academic studies (history, theory, criticism) and intensive, hands-on professional training in all the creative arts: dance, design, digital media, film, music, theatre, and visual arts/art history. The School emphasizes contemporary artistic production and process in all discipline areas and is known for its excellent facilities and leading research. AMPD is a destination for top artistic talent because we provide a dynamic space for students to push the boundaries of disciplinary rigour, create new cultural propositions, engage the integration of emerging technologies and forms of practice within the extensive scholarly resources of one of Canada’s largest research universities.

The EO prepares, directs and monitors the Strategic Planning process, and is responsible for linking administrative functions and resources to the core business of the School within the context of institutional strategic priorities. The EO provides senior leadership and advice to the Dean on matters of policy and procedure and addresses issues related to an extensive range of resources. The EO functions as primary conduit to the University’s administrative functions, ensuring effective service coordination and local implementation of institutional policies and practices.

The major duties of the position include: strategic planning, management, and implementation of School objectives; advisory support to academic leaders; financial and data management; strategic enrolment management; oversight of academic and non-academic human resources and administration; and, pan-university committees and liaison. The position supervises 15 direct reports and oversees a budget in excess of $40 million.

A champion of equity, diversity and inclusion and building a positive workplace climate, the EO is energetic and visionary, and is responsible for ensuring that the School’s vision, strategy, priorities, and objectives are understood, supported and advanced. This includes working with Dean and other key stakeholders and communicating AMPD’s priorities and goals to York’s senior leadership and stakeholders inside and outside the University.
