The opportunity 

The Manager, Academic Support and Curriculum Innovation researches best teaching practices, innovative course designs and inclusive pedagogies and utilizes findings to assist faculty and instructors for curriculum development.  In this role, you will manage the design, delivery and evaluation of transition and academic support for Faculty of Arts students, including transition courses and academic support programming to address student needs.  Additionally, you will manage staff resources and oversee the administrative planning for the Faculty of Arts academic support unit.  

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Researches best teaching practices and innovative course design:  Assists faculty for curriculum redevelopment in the area of indigenization, anti-black racism and equity-based experiential teaching and learning. 

  • HR Management and Budgeting:  Determines the resources required for implementing various plans, initiatives and programs; Creates and manages the annual budget for all the plans, initiatives and programs.

  • First Year and Transition Program Management:  In collaboration with faculty and staff, designs, manages and delivers the faculty -specific first-year and other transition support programs and provides academic and learning support to first-year courses across the Faculty. 

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Master’s degree in Education, leadership, training and development or related field.

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ related management experience in progressively responsible administrative positions, ideally including in an academic environment. 

  • The incumbent will possess knowledge and application of theories related to student development, retention and success. 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak to large and small groups ranging from high school students to university students and faculty and to deal with external organizations, such as employers and vendors. 

  • Solid financial and numerical analysis skills.

  • Good judgment and investigative skills, conflict resolution skills and negotiation skills for complex interpersonal situations. 

  • Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness, sensitivity, empathy and tact to deal with frustrated and/or irate students and/or faculty to resolve conflicts.

  • Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
