Director of People and Culture, Mount Allison University

Founded in 1839, Mount Allison University attracts some of the most talented and creative minds from across the country and around the world to Sackville, New Brunswick. Mount Allison has one of the most beautiful university campuses in Canada and is home to approximately 2300 students. The University offers seven undergraduate degree programs and more than 50 programs of study. The University has been ranked Canada's #1 undergraduate university by Maclean’s Magazine more times than any other university, a record that reflects the combined efforts of faculty, students, and staff. Reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration, the Director of People and Culture (formerly the Director of Human Resources) has the overall responsibility of the management and guidance of the Mount Allison University’s people and culture function. The Director of People and Culture is integral in the facilitation and guidance of the institution on all human resource matters, including campus culture and positive people outcomes. The Director of People and Culture is a strategic advisor to President’s Cabinet and other University leaders concerning people matters, and supported by a talented human resource team, they champion efforts to continuously improve the University’s workplace environment by establishing and delivering on human resources objectives in line with the University’s strategic plan. The Director of People and Culture will coordinate the development and implementation of sustainable policies, programs, systems and procedures relating to all facets of the human resources function including organizational effectiveness, staffing, labour and employee relations, training and development, performance management, compensation administration, job evaluation, occupational health and safety, benefit and pension administration, related reporting and payroll.

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned human resources leader with proven leadership experience and understanding of the broad range of HR functions within a complex, multi-union environment. You are proficient in current HR practices and trends and are experienced in leading the implementation of new policies, systems and processes to support recruitment, engagement, development, and performance of talent. An excellent communicator and skilled negotiator, you are capable of navigating collective agreement negotiations and ongoing labor relations matters using the sensitivity and strategy needed to achieve positive results. You are an esteemed strategic advisor, known for your methodical and transparent approach, and your ability to successfully build and foster collaborative and trusting relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds. A credible leader, you possess the credentials, reputation, experience, and confidence to work seamlessly with the University’s senior leaders to strategically improve the human resource function within the University.

Mount Allison acknowledges that it is located within the territory of Mi’kma’ki, the unceded, ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq. Mount Allison’s relationship and privilege to live on this territory was agreed upon in the Peace and Friendship Treaties of 1752. Because of this treaty relationship it is to be acknowledged that members of the Mount Allison community are all Treaty people and have a responsibility to respect this territory.
