Associate Vice President, Academic

For close to 60 years, British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) has been a leader in delivering highly relevant education that is innovative, industry-responsive and that equips graduates to anticipate and conquer the complex challenges of our day. BCIT has become Canada’s largest polytechnic thanks to its unique position in the post-secondary ecosystem of British Columbia, and Canada.

Under the leadership of a new President and a new Provost/Vice President Academic, BCIT is turning its attention to its next exciting phase of growth.  As part of future planning, a new and high impact role has been created in an Associate Vice President, Academic (“AVPA”).  Reporting to the Provost/Vice President Academic, and leading teams in academic planning and quality assurance, agile learning, the learning/teaching centre, institutional research and planning, educational supports and institute sustainability, the AVPA will work to further strengthen and align BCIT’s academic activities within the broader context of BCIT. The AVPA will seek input and collaborate with leadership teams across all of BCIT’s programs and campuses and ultimately provide advice to the Provost on matters related to advancing BCIT’s academic mission through innovative academic planning, policy and governance.

As BCIT’s first AVPA, you likely bring doctoral level education (or this is in progress) and a positive track record of success in an academic leadership role where your contribution can be characterized by vision and a palpable enthusiasm for what is possible in teaching and learning. Your strengths in this area have catalyzed conversations and people around sound decision-making in academic, financial, planning, policy, and enrolment-related initiatives. You have the credibility and trust to effectively bridge the perspectives of faculty and administration. These talents and experiences may have been gained from within a polytechnic, college or university in the role of Dean, Associate Dean, VP, AVP.

This role, based out of BCIT’s main campus in Burnaby, BC, is perfect for an academic leader with entrepreneurial instincts, who sets high standards and whose principles are grounded in student success and collegial governance.
