Director, Global Alumni Strategy

Reporting to the Executive Director, Alumni Strategy, the Director, Global Alumni Strategy plays a key role in the engagement of Queen’s alumni audiences across national and global markets, including developing, implementing, and evaluating engagement strategies that demonstrates the university’s value proposition to alumni, and engages 160,000+ alumni around the world in the advancement of Queen’s University in a variety of ways (e.g., volunteerism and philanthropy). An experienced strategist, the Director identifies key markets and works collaboratively with campus partners to deliver customized programming, engaging those alumni populations in support of university priorities. Acting as a liaison to the network of volunteer-led regional and international groups, including the Greater Toronto Area market, branches of the Queen’s University Alumni Association (QUAA), and Bader College, the incumbent ensures alignment with university-wide strategic plans and the Advancement Strategic Plan 2020-2025, Forward, Together. The Director works collaboratively with staff in the Office of Advancement, senior university administrators, lead volunteers, as well as faculties, schools, and university affiliated groups on and off campus to provide expertise in all aspects of alumni engagement, including using metrics to drive and evaluate strategy. The incumbent ensures an inclusive lens, that reflects a commitment to I-EDIAA, in providing expertise and direction in the development and implementation of alumni engagement strategy and execution for mutual benefit.

This position is fully remote. This position requires extensive travel within and outside Canada and requires the incumbent to travel and work evenings and weekends according to program or area needs.

  • University degree, preferably at the honours level.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive experience and demonstrated track record of success at a leadership or managerial level, within a large, complex, multi-constituent organization, focused on the strategic creation and execution of compelling alumni and volunteer engagement programming, across a range of channels and formats (e.g., events, communications).
  • Proven track record in strategy development and implementation, project planning, budget and revenue forecasting, program analysis, and meeting objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and communicate strategy and tie portfolio activity and planning back to overarching goals and the “big picture,” and the proven ability to promote inclusion in the workplace and effectively recruit, supervise, organize, direct, motivate and retain talented staff and volunteers to achieve objectives, and work effectively with senior leadership.
  • A valid “G” class driver’s license and passport with no travel restrictions is required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check required.
  • Clear understanding of and strict adherence to ethical fundraising standards and supporting legislation.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian philanthropic and university environment, including the challenges faced by both.
  • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
