CHRO & Assistant Vice President Human Resources

York University is a leading international teaching and research university and a driving force for positive change. It was founded in 1959 on principles of social justice. Since that time, York University has grown to become Canada’s third largest research and teaching institution, a progressive and community-engaged university committed to providing a broad demographic of students access to a high quality, research-intensive environment. York University continues to innovate across its multiple campuses located in the heart of Toronto, including the Keele and bilingual Glendon campus, the Markham campus scheduled to open in 2023, and international campuses in Hyderabad, India, and Costa Rica.

In this highly strategic and transformational leadership role, the CHRO and Assistant Vice-President Human Resources provides forward-looking, dynamic, and collaborative leadership, building upon the strengths of the Division of Equity, People and Culture. Reporting to the Vice-President Equity, People and Culture, the CHRO builds bridges across the institution and facilitates cultural and systemic transformation through the development of strategies, services, systems, initiatives, and operations. The CHRO collaborates with senior leaders across the institution, including central operations and services and academic divisions. The incumbent has oversight of human resources strategy, policies, and practices, encompassing the areas of recruitment and talent development, compensation, human resources information management and systems, and employee health, safety, and wellbeing.

The next CHRO brings several years of leadership experience, ideally gained within a unionized environment. A track record of successfully managing complex transformational change initiatives and delivering excellent and modern human resources practices in support of effective operations is essential. The CHRO will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a large complex and multi-partner environment and an understanding of emerging HR technologies. With a commitment to the principles of fairness and equity, the CHRO values the diversity of people and ideas.
