The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Queen’s University is seeking to hire a strong relationship builder with experience fostering accessible learning environments within higher education, for the position of Associate Director, Learning Environments (Digital & Physical). Reporting to the Director, Centre for Teaching and Learning, the successful candidate will have a deep understanding of how accessibility standards shape learning environments, and have direct experience creating successful digital and physical learning environments in higher education. Guided by Queen’s University strategy, the CTL is committed to advancing Indigenization, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Accessibility and Anti-Racism (I-EDIAA) by creating sustainable and meaningful teaching and learning experiences and environments for instructors, staff, and students. This is achieved by our work at the individual, departmental, faculty-wide, and institutional level, on all aspects of the educational process across the university.
This opportunity will appeal to someone interested in leading change in a U15 higher education institution, which will reshape how education is delivered to students. The incumbent will be interested in enhancing the synergies between digital and physical teaching and learning spaces, while guiding, facilitating, and collaborating on institutional responses to achieve an accessible and inclusive campus environment. Located on beautiful Lake Ontario, this mid-sized city boasts a vibrant downtown with a variety of options for shopping, entertainment, and dining. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctorate in a relevant field or in progress; background in education is an asset. Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of knowledge and experience applying similar principles in physical or digital learning environments.
- Several years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a university environment.
- Experience managing a team of professionals, including the ability to make and implement decisions and to delegate work and prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and enthusiasm for creating and sustaining effective teams and positive work environments.
- Experience in analysis, strategic planning, policy development and in drafting reports for decision making purposes.
- Academic background with practical and demonstrated experience in project management, curriculum development, review, and evaluation for online, blended and face-to-face programs.
- Demonstrated ability to work with educators to develop inclusive, broad-perspective higher education learning environments and curriculum.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Highly skilled in collaborative and consultative techniques.
- Familiarity with theories of inclusive learning, curriculum and assessment in online, blended and face-to-face settings.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate university-wide educational development programming.
- Excellent project and staff management skills.
- Organizational and planning skills, to coordinate the work of individuals and the overall operation of the unit.
- Ability to cope with multiple demands and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to propose and support the development of new initiatives and lead strategic planning.
- Ability to lead and support teams, foster, and support the creation of a team environment and maximize the success of integrated networks of practice.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and accommodate shifting priorities.
- Ability to work with multiple key partners.
- Ability to interact with tact and diplomacy while managing competing priorities of diverse groups, handling priority conflicts or dealing with sensitive information.
