Located in the beautiful Fraser Valley just east of Vancouver, British Columbia, the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is a fully accredited, public university that enrolls approximately 15,000 students per year. UFV has campuses and locations in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, and Hope, as well as a growing presence in Chandigarh, India. UFV offers more than 100 programs, including two master’s degrees, 15 bachelor’s degrees, majors, minors, and extended minors in more than 30 subject areas, and more than a dozen trades and technology programs.
As UFV continues its evolution as a premier institution within BC’s post-secondary landscape, the need for strategic leadership of the enterprise risk function is paramount. As such, UFV has created the inaugural role of Director, Enterprise Risk (Director). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director is responsible for the leadership, innovation, and management necessary to identify, evaluate, and monitor the University’s operational and strategic risks. The position leads the development of the ERM framework, tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to support risk management activities across the University.
The Director leads the ERM process by facilitating the structured identification of risks affecting the advancement of organizational goals and priorities. Additionally, the Director assesses the identified risks from a holistic perspective, advising and providing guidance to the Executive on approaches to navigate through the risks identified by the risk owners, the successful monitoring of progress achieved by the risk owners in advancing the defined risk mitigation actions, and regular reporting to the Executive and the Board.
The Director will possess the passion, energy and ERM experience to enhance the function, as well as the integrity and credibility to build trust and gain buy-in across a multi-constituent environment. Experience within a large, complex organization and an ability to think strategically will be key to the success of the Director, as will a solid track record of developing and implementing ERM policies and procedures. A true collaborator and relationship builder, the ideal candidate will be skilled at balancing facilitation with a drive for best practices adoption.
The targeted hiring range for this position is $136,514 – $140,966 annually, supplemented by a competitive total rewards package.
